Archibat HR Asia is looking for a Design Director for an international construction services company delivering fit out, construction, engineering services and a range of specialist solutions.
Work Location: Shanghai
Responsibilities:
1. Design Conceptual design, space planning, test fits, building fabric, finishes and furniture selections; Hand and CAD drawing and sketching Preparation of design presentations and mood boards Briefing of the commercial and construction teams, sourcing of price and availability information. Oversee the technical drawings, tender drawings, detail drawings & construction drawings.2. Design Management Management of the design process and team from conceptualization to documentation stage; ensure functional, quality, cost and time objectives are met. Review of RFP documents, participation in project Go / No Go Input into the assessment of capability of consultants, calling for and evaluating proposals, reviewing contracts and instructing the Commercial Department to appoint. Establishing project by project design and documentation programmes, monitoring and revision Monitoring the design process to ensure the interior design, structural, architectural and mechanical and engineering works are coordinated. Certifying sub-consultant fee claims, advising accounts department of our invoicing. For specific projects, inspection of work on site, sign off on setouts and defects rectification Chairing client meetings and workshops, making presentations to clients and stakeholders3. Design and Documentation Studio Management Role definition, candidate shortlisting, selection and on-boarding Interface with Commercial Team for pricing of design inputs Design research, strategy, direction, trend-identification Convening post-construction feedback and process-improvement sessions4. Business Planning and Development, Sales & Marketing Developing short and long term business plans Developing business strategies and approach; maintain knowledge, innovate and adapt to changes and trends in the regional market place. Provide guidance and presence in business development. Assist to set and achieve sales targets and marketing objectives. Build and maintain strategic relationship with key clients, consultants, vendors, publishers and business partners5. Thought Leadership Verbal pitches and presentations, lectures and participation in industry forums; Writing and editing design reports, project reviews, feasibilities, marketing materials, resumes, articles and awards entries6. Finance and Accounts Provide inputs to the setting of annual regional budgets.7. Operations & Delivery Monitor performance measures; ensure effective operations of the individual departments. Lead at service delivery level where required, monitor project deliveries to achieve consistent quality standards that meet or exceed customers’ expectations.
Requirements:
Education & Training Degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or closely related discipline.
Technical Requirements Eight or more years of industry relevant working experience. Experience and advanced knowledge in interior design; strategy, concept, design development, documentation, specification and contract administration. Experience in Design and Build delivery, commercial / workplace and hospitality interiors High proficiency in Adobe CS (Photoshop and Indesign), AutoCAD / AutoCAD LT, MSOffice (Word / Excel),sketchup. Design communication skills; sketchup, hand sketching and finishes board construction. Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese, verbal communication and presentation skills.
Managerial Experience Experience managing sizable design teams and coordinating with consultants and contractors.
